The insertion of a gene (fragment of DNA) or rDNA into a cloning vector and propagation of the DNA molecule in a host organism is called as Gene cloning. A clone refers to a group of genetically identical cells, molecules or organism arising from a single individual.

The gene cloning is also known as the gene amplification.  It is the process by which the rDNA molecules will replicate many times in the host cell and produces the multiple copies. The clones of rDNA molecules are produced as a result of gene amplification is known as the gene clone.
