Denaturation refers to the breakdown of bonds the form the secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure of proteins. It is carried out by treatment using various physical and chemical agents such as acids, alkalis, heat and organic solvents. Denaturation causes conformational change in the protein structure thereby causing it to lose its function.
