The cellular biomass or protein extracts of microbes grown in large quantities is called as Single cell protein. IT is used as human or animal protein supplement or as food substitute. It is rich in proteins having relatively low fat content and contains essential amino acids.

Some of the microbes that are used as Single cell protein are listed in the table:
