HROMOSOMES DURING PROPHASE

  1. Chromosomes become shorten and thick in the early stage of prophase.
  2. In this stage (early prophase) chromatids are condensed, so that they are easily visible under microscope.
  3. Whereas at the end of prophase (late prophase) replicated chromosomes are visible as the pair of sister chromatids.
  4. During meiosis chromosomes are more condensed to form tetrads and also undergo the process of crossing over.
  5. Due to crossing over of two homologous chromosomes, chiasmata form.
