Peripheral as the name itself suggest that all the nerves that are not included in the central nervous system, forms the peripheral nervous system. The major function of the PNS is communication between CNS-central nervous system and other body parts. The components of the PNS are the cranial nerves (there are12 pairs of cranial nerves) arising from the brain and the spinal nerves (31 pairs) arising from the spinal cord. These nerves convey the signals between the CNS and the other body parts.
