The pyruvate which is formed as a result of glycolytic catabolism of glucose moves from the cytosol and enters the matrix of mitochondria. There it undergoes oxidative decarboxylation in the presence of pyruvic dehydrogenase and coenzymes. This reaction yields 2 molecules of NADH from 2 molecules of pyruvic acid.
