Zygospores are the sexual resting spores produced during the sexual stages of the Class Zygomycetes. They are also known as conjugation Fungi because the zygospores are produced through gametangial conjugation. Asexual reproduction occurs in the Zygomycetes by formation of non-motile Sporangiospores and conidia. Asexual reproduction is by formation of sporangiophores on the aerial branches of the hyphae. On which sporangia are borne and which then give rise to haploid Sporangiospores.
