Bryophytes are so called because being an amphibian they can survive well in both land and water but like the amphibian kingdom of Animalia they need water to complete their life cycle.

Though bryophytes are terrestrial land plant with marshy habitat they need water during sexual reproduction.Thats why bryophytes are called amphibians of plant kingdom.

bryophytes are also known as amphibians because they possess the characteristics of plants and animals, as they have chlorophyll but do not possess vascular bundle which consists of xylem and phloem and being terrestrial they need water for synthesis of food and mostly found in marshy and damp areas....
