Endodermis is the inner most layer of cortex; it is the limiting layer of stele. It is formed of single layer of compactly arranged parenchyma cells. Some of the important roles played by the endodermis are:

  1. It acts as a protective layer referred as accessory epidermis.
  2. It can also regulate and maintain root pressure.
