Cellulose is not digested in the digestive system of man and other animals.
It can withstand acidic hydrolysis.
Though not digested, cellulose has great importance in human nutrition.
It is a major constituent of fiber, the non-digestible carbohydrate.
The function of dietary fiber includes decreasing the absorption of glucose and cholesterol from the intestines, besides increasing the bulk of feces.
