Genetically modified plants or foods contain desirable gene or genes which are transferred from another plant or unrelated organism. This desirable gene is called as transgene (transferred gene). A marker gene is also introduced to know whether the cells have transformed or not. Antibiotic resistance genes are served as marker genes for selection of transformed cells.
