Amphetamines are synthetic drugs which are structurally similar to adrenaline.
These drugs stimulate the Central Nervous System (CNS) by activating the sympathetic nerves.
They bring about increased alertness and activity, reduce appetite and depression.
They are used by weight watchers to reduce weight and by students for working late hours.
They produce a sense of well-being, increase self-confidence and excitement.
However, the mental capacity of the individual is soon impaired.
The after-effects include nausea and vomiting.
Since amphetamines give tremendous boost to self-confidence, tolerance and energy, they are called ‘superman drugs’.
