After the discharge of the sperms by the pollen tube, one of the male gamete fuses with the egg (syngamy) and the other male gamete fuses with the secondary nucleus (triple fusion). The fusion of one male nucleus with the secondary nucleus is known as double fertilization; here the secondary nucleus of the triple fusion is formed by the fusion of two polar nuclei.
