The critical day length has effect on the plant growth and development and this is referred as the photoperiodism. The main responses are flowering, bulb formation and bud dormancy. The long day plants flowers during when the days becomes longer than the critical day length. Whereas the short day plants flowers only when there short day light than the critical day length.
