The main biological significance of senescence is:

  1. It helps in recycling the mineral nutrients. There by enrich the nutrients in the soil so that it helps in the seed germination and the growth of new plants.
  2. It maintains the efficiency of the plants as the older organs does not require further nutrients so that these nutrients can be used by the young growing parts.
  3. The falling of leaf helps to reduce the transpiration so that they can survive under the adverse conditions.
