Ascostroma is a fruiting body which lacks distinct wall and is composed of the vegetative hyphae which is modified into pseudo parenchyma. The asci are bitunicate. Several locules or cavities are produced in the stroma which is formed by the vegetative hyphae. Sometimes only a single locule is present in the stroma of ascocarp which resembles the perithecium so also known as the pseudothecium. This type of ascocarp is found in Loculoascomycetes like the Leptosphaeria, Pleospora and Mycopshaerella.
