Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone that is produced by the developing placenta in early stages of pregnancy.
This hormone is the basis for the pregnancy test.
It maintains the corpus luteum in the ovary thus the uterine lining is maintained and the embryo are retained. Further corpus luteum produces progesterone, which maintains the endometrial wall. The endometrium of the uterus is maintained, consequently menstruation doesn’t occur. Throughout pregnancy this production of estrogen and progesterone prevents the release of FSH and LH, consequently eggs are not released.
