Difference between endocytosis and exocytosis

Exocytosis

It involves the uptake of substances by the cell

It involves the release of substance by the cell

It involves formation of vesicles containing the substances (solid or liquid)

In exocytosis, the vesicles containing the substances fuse with the plasma membrane

Example: Engulfment of bacteria by the white blood cells during defense mechanism

Example: Release of hormones out of the cell
