How did the heterospory result in the seed habit?

The evolutionary stage that resulted in the formation seed habit from a non-seed bearing plant. It involves as a result of the process like;

  1. Production of two kinds of spores.
  2. Reduction in the number of functional megaspores occurs.
  3. Only single megaspore within the mega sporangium.
  4. Formation of the integument enveloping the sporangium except at the apex forming the micropyle. This integument which protects the ovule; it later transforms to seed coat.
  5. Well development of the micropylar region for the receiving the microspores and also provide opening for the seed germination.
