Conidiophores are specialized hyphae which play an important role in asexual reproduction. They bear the conidia (asexual spores) at its tip which are not enclosed within a sac.

The main functions of conidiophore:

  1. It is the fruiting body which is a means of asexual reproduction.
  2. It produces the spores known as the conidia.
  3. The conidia on germination give rise to the mycelium.
