The skin has several accessory organs. Sebaceous glands are associated with hair. Sebaceous glands also known as oil glands secrete an oily substance that moistens and softens hair and skin. The oil secretions from sebaceous glands are acidic thus retard the growth of bacteria.

These are found within hair follicles and located wherever there is hair. Each hair follicle has one or more sebaceous glands.
