Eukaryotic cells do not contain restriction endonucleases. It is present in a prokaryotic cell like bacteria. The main role of this enzyme in prokaryotic cells is in defense mechanism to restrict the growth of bacteriophages by cutting the viral DNA. However, eukaryotes have other mechanisms to control the entry of viruses.
