Genetic  RNA

  1. The organisms having only RNA is called genetic RNA.
  2. RNA plays a genetic role in such organisms.
  3. Example: RNA is found as genetic material in:
  • Plant viruses: TMV
  • Animal viruses: Influenza virus, Poliomyelitis virus
  • Bacteriophages: MS2

Non genetic RNA

  1. The organisms having DNA along with RNA is called non genetic RNA.
  2. In such organisms, RNA has no genetic role, but carries the orders of DNA.
  3. It is heterogeneous and includes:
  • Messenger RNA(m-RNA)
  • Ribosomal RNA(r-RNA)
  • Transfer RNA(t-RNA)
