The trichomes are classified into two categories. They are the;

  1. Non-glandular trichomes
  2. Glandular trichomes.

Non-glandular trichomes: These are of two types;

  1. Unicellular trichomes: It is a simple epidermal elongation which is straight or curved.
  2. Multicellular trichomes: It is branched or unbranched in a single to several rows of cells.

Glandular trichomes: These are of two types

  1. Unicellular
  2. Multicellular

The Glandular trichomes secrete a sticky substances it includes both the unicellular and multicellular trichomes. The simplest glandular trichomes are the stigmatic papillae.
