The vascular tissue xylem and phloem together form the vascular bundle. The elements of the vascular bundle arise from the procambium of the apical meristem. The apical meristem undergoes longitudinal division; some of the cells are distinguished by the presence of dense cytoplasm. These cells are known as the procambium. These procambial cells get differentiated into two parts; the phloic procambium and the xyloic procambium. The phloic procambium forms the phloem and xyloic procambium forms the xylem. The development of the xylem elements occurs both in acropetal and the basipetal manner, whereas the phloem tissue develops in acropetal manner.
