The potato tubers usually have a resting period of two or three months after the harvest. During this season the tubers will not be sprouting. After the resting season the potato tubers begins to grow where one or more apical buds grow but the lateral buds fails to grow. In tubers the apical dominance is destroyed by treatment with ethylene chlorohydrin. The application of IAA to the apex of tubers will result in the inhibition of lateral buds. Auxin inhibits the bud growth in dormant tubers. The removal of auxin by the ethylene chlorohydrin will permit the growth to proceed.
