During the anaerobic condition the lactic acid fermentation occurs where the pyruvic acid undergoes the reduction reaction and forms the lactic acid. The reaction is catalyzed by the enzyme lactic acid dehydrogenase where the reducing agent is the NADH. The lactic acid formation occurs in the mammalian skeleton muscle cells.
