  1. Rhizomes serve as means of vegetative propagation by perennating under  unfavourable conditions and giving rise to new aerial shoots at the onset of favourable conditions.
  2. The plants which propagate vegetatively by means of rhizome include Ginger, Turmeric, Lotus, Canna, Eichhornia (Water hyacinth), Typha etc.
