Position: It is the posterior part of the pituitary gland.

Parts:

It is formed of two parts - Pars nervosa and the Infundibulum.

Embryological development:

It develops as a down-growth of hypothalamus and remains permanently attached to it by the infundibulum. (i.e. arises from the Neutral ectoderm).
