Human pituitary gland has dual origin it is ecto-endodermal in origin.
The anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis) is endodermal in origin and developes from embryonic roof of buccal cavity(mouth cavity) called Rathkes pouch.
The posterior pituitary (Neurohypophysis) is ectodermal in origin and developes from hypothalamus.
