Electric organ is an organ which is a modified nerve or muscle tissue that generates electric field. The electricity generated from this organ is used for directing the animal, communication and as a defensive organ.

Electric organ is composed thousand of flat disc-like cells called electrocytes stacked one above the other each producing 0.15V electric discharge. Function of electrocytes is similar to muscle cells, by pumping sodium and potassium ions out of the cell via transport proteins by expense of energy. The electric eel can generate a pulse of about 500 V and a torpedo can generate about 50 V pulses only.
Examples: Stargazers, Torpedo, Electric eel, electric catfish, etc.
