The main function of centrioles in animal cells is the separation of chromatids during nuclear division.

In plants the case is quite different. After splitting of chromosomes in the nucleus, the golgi apparatus start forming plates at the centre of the cell (about to undergo cytokinesis) these plates then connect and form a barrier after which cellulose deposits and give rise to a cell wall, thereby producing two daughter cells.
