Now-a-days two types of blood tests are available to detect and confirm AIDS.

  1. Detection test: ELISA test (Enzyme- linked Immunosorbent Assay) or Southern Blot test. This test is used for the detection of HIV antibodies.
  2. Confirmatory test: Western blot test. This test analyses the specificity of the reaction of serum antibodies with the specific viral protein.
  3. Also, a less lymphocyte count (below 2000 cm) and increased Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgA levels indicate the possibility of AIDS.
  4. Now-a-days, ready HIV-antibody test kits give on the spot results.
