The natural seed dormancy is overcome with time. The artificial seed dormancy can be broken by rupturing the seed coat. It can be also overcome by treating the seeds with the chemicals like sulphuric acid, potassium nitrate, ethylene chlorohydrine, thiourea or the phytohormone like gibberellins. In certain other type of seed the hard seed coat is softened by the enzyme when it passes through the digestive tract of the fruit eating animals or birds. The seed is soaked and then red or the far red light is given to seed. The nature of the light last given to the seed determines the response of the seed.
