The main purposes served by seeds dormancy are:

  1. Seed dormancy in certain crop species is a desirable trait because it can prevent the preharvest sprouting and can also maintain the seed quality.
  2. Dormancy may cause seeds of numerous species of wild plants to remain un germinated in the soil.
  3. Seed dormancy is beneficial as the seed will not germinate under bad condition.
  4. It also cause some delay in the germination of the seed until spring season.
