The transgenic plants are the organisms that are developed as a result of introduction of foreign gene of desired function into the plants by genetic engineering. They are also known as the genetically modified organism or GM crops. Agrobacterium mediated gene transfer is the best method for the production of the transgenic plants. The two species of Agrobacterium the A. tumefaciens and A. rhizogenes are widely used. The transformed bacteria are used for the production of the transgenic plants.
